Firefighter of the Year Award
The Volunteer Firefighters of the Year Committee requests that every firematic organization gets behind this program and sends applications. A firefighter whose name is submitted for this award does not have to be an individual member of the association but must be an active member of a Corporate Department in good standing of the Central New York Firefighters Association.
Rules and Regulations that Govern the Award
Each year, the Central New York Firefighters Association Inc., will award a citation to “The Volunteer Firefighter of the Year” at their annual convention. The following rules prevail:
- The citation shall be made on merits, such as risking life, saving others from peril, carrying people from burning buildings or other actions making the person worthy of the award or some outstanding activity performed.
- Only one name may be submitted on each application. If there are several people nominated for the award, each name must be submitted on a separate application, setting forth the part each performed.
- A letter addressed to the Chairman of the Firefighter of the Year Committee, setting forth therein, in detail, a story or history of the deed(s) of valor of the named volunteer firefighter of his department, organization or company.
- Letter to be signed by the Chief, Assistant Chief and either the President or Secretary of the nominating Fire Dept.
- Letter to be acknowledged by the committee.
- All letters submitted must be postmarked no later than March 1st of the year of the convention.
- Awards shall be for the previous year, January 1st – December 31st.
- Awards shall be given at the annual convention.
- Awards may be a plaque, a cash award, or a medal.
- The Firefighter of the Year Committee shall submit their recommendations as to who, in their opinion, shall receive the award as “Volunteer Firefighter of the Year” to the Association President before May 1st. They in turn shall give their approval of the recommendation submitted to them by the committee.
The committee for the Firefighter of the Year Award shall consist of the Junior Past President and the last four immediate Past Presidents of the Association.
All letters should be addressed or E-mailed to Central New York Firefighters Association “Firefighter of the Year” Committee, in care of the Junior Past President.
