The Fire Prevention Education Center is currently seeking volunteers from across New York State to assist with staffing our exhibit at the New York State Fairgrounds during the 2025 State Fair this summer. Each year, we use props, characters, music and discussion to provide life-saving fire & safety education and skills to many thousand attendees of all ages. The exhibit currently includes the “House of Hazards” and a stage. The “House of Hazards” contains four rooms, each providing a different fire or life safety message or skill. While some messages and props in the “House of Hazards” remain consistent, such as E.D.I.T.H., others may change periodically to remain current with technology, address newer safety trends and implement current fire & life safety best practices. The stage is used to host the fire safety puppet show, character meet & greets, various safety demonstrations & other productions.
As a volunteer assisting the Fire Prevention Education Center, you will have the opportunity to provide high-quality fire & life safety education along side subject matter specialists from the New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control, the Syracuse Fire Department, and other fire service organizations from across New York State. As part of your experience, we ask those assisting at the exhibit to volunteer for a 4 1/2 hour shift, during which you will be asked to interact with Fair attendees in one or more sections of the exhibit. Virtual or in-person training for props and messaging will be made available to all registered assistants before the start of the Fair, so experience is not required.
In exchange for your time and assistance, you will be provided with 2 parking passes and 6 admission tickets for each group that registers to assist. We also welcome individuals to assist, where we will provide one parking and one admission ticket. We will gladly partner assistants from multiple agencies together to staff shifts. Once your shift is complete, we welcome you to enjoy all of the experiences the Great New York State Fair has to offer. Admission tickets also provide access to concerts held on Fairgrounds, NOT THE AMP on the date of admission.
We currently have shifts available beginning at 9:30, 1:30 and 5:30 for most dates from August 20th - September 1st, 2025. If you are interested in participating in this one-of-a-kind opportunity, please contact Ben or myself to register for a specific date and time. We are now utilizing Signup Genius website for scheduling. We need an email address to be able to invite you to volunteer for any open shifts. Please send email address(es) to Ben or Marty. We appreciate your consideration and look forward to working with you at the Fire Prevention Education Center exhibit this summer!
